Testing for Title Markup using the Functional Accessibility Evaluator

Strengths

  • FAE an check entire websites for titling markup
  • Tests for best practice markup patterns for creating accessible titles on all pages

Weakness

  • User must manual check if the title is meaningful using other tools, the FAE tool does not provide information on the actual title or H1 information on each page

Step 1: FAE Summary Report

Procedure

  1. If you have not already created a report, Create an FAE report on the web page or website to be evaluated
  2. Select the “Summary Report” option from the left hand navigation menu
  3. Check the results in the “Title” summary row in the table

Step 2: FAE Sitewide Report

Procedure

  1. If you have not already created a report, Create an FAE report on the web page or website to be evaluated
  2. Select the “Sitewide Report” option from the left hand navigation menu
  3. Select the “Navigation and Orientation” option from the left hand navigation menu
  4. Check the results the title rules in the “Titles” section which provides a summary of which pages passed or failed the rule with in the pages tested
  5. Individual pages can be identified for passing or failing each titling rules

Step 3: FAE Page Report

Procedure

  1. If you have not already created a report, Create an FAE report on the web page or website to be evaluated
  2. Select the “Page Report” or “List of Pages” option from the left hand navigation menu to select a specific url to check
  3. Select the “Navigation and Orientation” option from the left hand navigation menu
  4. Check the results the title rules in the “Titles” section for the page results
  5. Individual pages can be identified for passing or failing each titling rules
